4 Ways to Have a Stress-Free Elopement Day

YAY, so you and your fiancé have decided to elope! That is so exciting!!

Elopements are obviously ten times way less stressful than weddings, and that’s honestly why they are amazing. Just you, your partner and an epic location embarking on an incredible day. But to ensure that it’s as laid back and dreamy as possible, it’s best to be prepared and consider some things before your elopement day.

  1. Do it somewhere you love.

Ae you both a desert people? Do somewhere covered in cactus and red dirt, like Arizona ! More of a snowed-in cabin person? Say your vows somewhere cozy, like the north shore of Lake Superior. When you decide to elope, the possibilities for locations are endless! Whether you and your partner are outdoorsy people who dream of spending the whole day hiking a mountain, or you are more quaint- low-key- take-it-easy people, there’s an amazing location waiting for you.

fun fact- when we work together, I make a personalized location list jam packed with information of super awesome spots handpicked just for you! Here is Max and Natalie eloping at Garden of The Gods in Colorado Springs!

2. Be intentional about your guest list.

Your guest list can be just the two of you, me and an officiant! Or your guest list can just be two of you and me as a witness/officiant (did you know I can do that!?)

Whether you feel like your ideal day includes your close friends and family, or you want it to be an intimate “just us” experience, that is totally up to you! Just remember to invite people who love and support you and your relationship. Do NOT feel pressured to invite people who you don’t truly want there just because your parents said so, you feel bad. Throw that guilt out the window, ya’ll. Don’t invite stressful family members who might draw the attention back to them.

There are no rules. It’s your day! What I can say is there is no magic number- it’s truly just important to keep your list short and intentional. Quality over quantity, ya know?

3. Wear something that makes you feel fabulous.

Are you planning to wear a wedding dress? Are you a fancy person who’s planning on wearing a ballgown? Or maybe a vintage suit coat? Maybe you are ditching the wedding dress altogether and are opting for a fun jumpsuit. DO YOU, BOO! Just make sure you feel absolutely amazing in your look. Whatever your elopement day attire looks like, consider these things:

How easily can I move around in this?

  1. Will I be comfortable wearing this for hours?

  2. Will this dress be the right temperature for my location (can I layer it in the cold)?

  3. How easily can I pack this dress to travel to my destination?

  4. Can I get into this dress/look on my own?

  5. How will this look depending on the weather (rain, wind, etc.)?

  6. Do I feel absolutely amazing in it? THIS IS KEY! :)

Make sure you practice movin and groovin in your dress or wedding attire. The last thing you want to do is be uncomfortable on your elopement day!!

4. Lean into the unpredictable magic that will happen.

If you are eloping in the wild, anything can happen! Embrace it. If there is anything we've learned from 2020 in the wedding industry, it’s that anything can change at any second. And the weather is no exception! But chances are, if you’re eloping you aren’t worried about perfection. So lean into the idea that you might get a snowstorm, or a crazy sunset. Let the magic of your elopement day take over!

No matter what, I'll ensure that we plan for spontaneous changes and a timeline that allows us to go with the flow. Also, my backpack is JAM PACKED (lol literally) with things to have you covered! From bobby pins to bandaids, to tons of extra layers, i’m there for ya.
